MIAMI HORROR
WE’RE ALL MADE OF STARS
Directed by Stephen Wayne Mallett
Rep: Laure Scott

My concept is inspired by WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE, enter the void, don’t Look up, and melancholia.
We shoot in A HYBRID OF VISTA-VISION, AND the nostalgic IMPERFECTIONS OF VHS.

IN A SERIES OF VIGNETTES WE JOIN A FEW PEOPLE LOOKING UP AT THEIR IMPENDING DOOM AS AN ASTEROID COMES BARRELING TOWARDS EARTH. THESE PEOPLE HAVE CHOSEN TO FIND PEACE WITH WHAT THEY CANNOT CONTROL. IT’S AS IF THEY HAVE BEEN EXPECTING THIS MOMENT OF IMPACT FOR QUITE SOME TIME.
IT’S NOTHING NEW TO THEM.
THE LOOMING DEATH BRINGS EVERYONE TOGETHER AS THEY ENTER NOSTALGIC WORLDS OF EUPHORIA / DYSPHORIA.
THEIR CHILDHOOD MEMORIES BLEED INTO THEIR CURRENT REALITY GIVING US THE FREEDOM TO PLACE 1990-2000 LORE INTO ANY SCENE.
THE EDIT WILL BE PSYCHEDELIC.
IMAGINE YOU ARE WATCHING A MOVIE ON A MICRO-DOSE.

THE TELESCOPE
A couple stands by a telescope, the asteroid’s fiery tail cutting across the sky. The woman grips the man’s hand, her face serene yet awestruck. Their minds drift to a memory shot on VHS: the two of them running around the city young and in love. The present-day couple toasts to their doom, laughing and crying together.

MOTHER
& SON
A mother and son pause at a wall of 90s TVs, watching the asteroid streaking across the sky as the building shakes.
Their memories appear on the glitched-out TVs before them. We see them jumping on a trampoline at sunset. Cut to them at night in sleeping bags. The mother points at the stars with a laser pointer, but they are mesmerized by the glittering expanse above, the boys’ tiny fingers tracing patterns in the sky. The shaking building jolts them back to the present, where they stand still as life buzzes around them.

FRIENDS FOREVER
A group of friends sit around a fire barrel, playing music, drinking, dancing, laughing, and crying. They occasionally look up to their eventual obliteration, and when they do - their VHS memories flood the screen.
The world before the internet takeover was beautiful, and they are all thankful to have experienced tender and special moments.

DEATH
The video closes out as the characters meet their cataclysmic demise. The moments are drenched in beautiful blinding light. Some fade away alone, and some hold their person tight. Either way, the end is beautiful and brilliant.
