KHALID

ALL I KNOW

BY STEPHEN WAYNE MALLETT
Rep: Laure Scott

This concept will bounce the viewer between love and loneliness.

CONCEPT 01

Set in a black void, the lighting is the emotional pulse of the video—pre-programmed to sync rhythmically with the track. As Khalid sings, the lights shift in direct response to the lyrics, creating a visceral, cinematic experience. When he reaches “All I know is when the nights get cold,” the environment plunges into deep, moody blues, enveloping him in loneliness and introspection. The moment he sings “I need someone to hold on to…”, the darkness gives way to a radiant, angelic gold, symbolizing warmth, connection, and longing. This fluid transition between tones makes the lighting an active character, guiding the audience through the song’s emotional highs and lows.

MOVEMENT

The camera behaves like a dancer with the music—speeding up as the song intensifies and slowing down for the poetic moments. During high-energy sections, the movement becomes kinetic—smooth glides, quick push-ins from full body to close up, and floating sweeps that mirror the urgency of the track. As the song slows, the camera shifts to smooth, dolly-driven movements, circling Khalid in high-end, close-up compositions that capture the raw emotion in his performance. This contrast between thrill seeking camera moves and controlled editorial close ups keeps the visuals compelling while maintaining an elegant, premium feel.

SUPPORTING CAST

To further elevate the emotion, two movement artists will be introduced, subtly embodying the song’s themes through delicate, expressive body language. Their movements will be fluid, restrained, and poetic, reflecting the lyrics without overpowering Khalid’s performance. They are not dancers in the traditional sense but rather extensions of the song’s emotional core—shifting between moments of reach, separation, and reconnection. Their presence adds a hypnotic quality to the visuals, drawing the audience in deeper, making this a piece they’ll want to watch over and over again. The way they interact with light and shadow, appearing and disappearing into the void, adds a dreamlike, surreal quality that heightens the song’s emotional impact.

EVOLVING COLOUR

While the core lighting shifts between deep blues and angelic gold, representing loneliness and warmth, the introduction of additional colors through the movement artists will expand the emotional depth of the video. Love, heartbreak, and connection are never just one feeling—they exist in a constant rotation of emotions, evolving like shifting light.

As the dancers move, subtle pulses of new colors emerge, reacting to their presence. Soft purples and magentas evoke nostalgia and longing, rich oranges and fiery reds symbolize passion and intensity, while cool greens bring a sense of renewal and hope. These colors don’t overwhelm but rather weave in and out, subtly enhancing the storytelling—a visual representation of the complexities of love and human connection.

SEAMLESS TRANSITIONS

Light and darkness become the edit’s organic heartbeat, allowing seamless, invisible cuts between setups. The scene is covered with a variety of hypnotic angles—high-end smooth close-ups that lock in on Khalid’s expressions, dramatic super-wides that emphasize isolation and scale, and low angles that add power and depth.

Each transition is bold and intentional, using shifts in lighting direction to reframe the mood and composition. In one moment, the light cascades from above, illuminating Khalid like a spotlight in a void. In the next, it shifts behind him, creating a powerful, silhouetted presence, adding mystery and depth. These sudden but seamless lighting shifts feel like emotional beats in the song—revealing, obscuring, and reshaping the visual narrative in a way that heightens the intensity of each moment.

ART

Vintage charm is added through various eras that all coexist in this world. All of our lights including bulbs inside of lamps will change with the music.

VINTAGE IMPERFECTIONS

We bring in various types of analogue cameras to capture lo-fi energy alongside our state of the art 4K+ cameras. MiniDV, Flip, Super 8 all play a part inspiring the viewer to feel more than just HD visuals. We drag the shutter on our HD cameras to create ghosting and imperfect emotion. Additional manipulation will be done in post to make our content one of a kind.

CONCEPT TWO

It would be fun to have Khalid shoot his POV performance sitting in a chair going through glam with the set being built behind him. (Emphasis on a well lit background)

CONCEPT THREE

Leaning into the classic Hollywood vibes of concept two, I see Khalid walking through the entire set from wardrobe to his position on the stage while the lights are being tested (Emphasis on a well lit background - the house lights will be on for this shot) . This gives intrigue into the process of film-making while maintaining the raw content feel.

CONCEPT FOUR

If we are feeling the fun of a film set concept, Khalid could be vibing to the song in the parking lot when suddenly a coffee order arrives from a PA. The PA hands him his drink and he keeps moving as if this was an organic moment.

Alternatively, we can set a cool car up in the parking lot with some of the art for some on the fly content.
